Share
Hello, we are Tufting studio & shop RUGMATAG, a tufting workshop and materials/equipment specialty store in Osaka.
Thank you to everyone who submitted so many wonderful works to the SUMMER TUFTING CONTEST 2025 held this summer.
In this article, we will introduce the works of the three award-winning artists!
Best Performance Award 🏆
This award is given to the photo that receives the most likes on Instagram Stories . Winner: "Betta" / @rug_arude

Using old clothes that no longer belong to the wearer, the delicate colors are expressed by combining multiple colors of soft acrylic yarn. Furthermore, depth is added to the tail fin and other parts to create a three-dimensional effect.
The idea of "using old clothes in new ways" also stood out and resonated with many people.
Creative Rug Award 🏆
This award is given to the most creative work selected by RUGMATAG . Winning work: "Mamera-chan" / @mofufu_mos
This piece is based on the Chimera, a monster from Greek mythology, and makes use of the softness and color of the yarn to create a familiar shape.
What's unique about this piece is that it wasn't just a rug to lay down, but a three-dimensional art piece, and I was amazed at the careful craftsmanship, size, and high level of perfection.
This work really brought home to us the breadth of expression that tufting can offer, and all of us at RUGMATAG were very impressed.
Special Jury Award 🏆
This award is given to a specially selected work . Winning work: "Rug Festival" / @tufting_mikarug

The piece uses tufting to depict motifs symbolizing summer festivals, such as yukata obi, yo-yos, goldfish, and cotton candy, and the entire piece depicts a "scene of summer."
The joy of buying everything at a festival is expressed through a rich story by combining multiple small pieces. The idea of wearing the pieces with traditional Japanese clothing shows a new way to incorporate rugs into fashion.
Although this was an attempt made only recently after she had started home tufting, the judges were deeply impressed by her free-spirited thinking and her "attitude towards enjoying tufting."
Conclusion
Congratulations again to all the award recipients!
This year too, we received a lot of wonderful works, making the selection process extremely difficult.
Although only a small number of the entries were awarded prizes, each one was filled with the charm of tufting, and we were greatly inspired by them.
The creator's thoughts are conveyed through each piece, and I am truly delighted that they have been able to share their special expressions.
Once again, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the 28 people who applied this time.
The next event will be held in winter! Please look forward to it!
