First of all, what is tufting (rug) adhesive?
Adhesive is essential for finishing a rug.
However, many people may be wondering, "Can't I just use flooring adhesive or wood glue sold at home improvement stores instead?"
In fact, that's the big difference.
Difference from general adhesives
Tufting adhesives are specially formulated for rugs and have the following characteristics:
- Adhesion strength suitable for rugs
- Long-lasting durability (will not crack or peel even when stepped on)
・Soft finish
・Can be processed to provide anti-slip effects
On the other hand, if you use commercially available flooring adhesives or wood glue...
・The finish is sticky or hard

・Displayed artwork : No need for anti-slip effect → Ecoshell is recommended as it is easy to prepare
・Works to be laid on the floor (small size, like a doormat) : Anti-slip material is recommended → RADITEX or anti-mite material
・If you want to use it in an environment with small children or pets , we recommend a hygienic anti-mite product .
Furthermore, keeping the following three points in mind will make your selection easier:

② Lining : Lining mesh , backing cloth , non-slip backing cloth

How to choose a lining to enhance the anti-slip effect
The anti-slip effect of tufting work is determined not only by the adhesive but also by the "combination with the backing."
1. Mesh lining
If you want to maximize the anti-slip effect of the adhesive, be sure to combine it with a mesh lining.
Applying adhesive to the mesh provides a high level of anti-slip performance.
Using a regular cloth backing cloth will allow you to neatly cover the underside of the rug with cloth.
However, since the backside is covered with cloth, the anti-slip effect of the adhesive is not achieved.
Non-slip backing cloth has a non-slip effect in itself.
Therefore, it provides anti-slip properties regardless of the adhesive used.
