Why do rugs warp? A comprehensive explanation of the causes and solutions

Hello!

My name is Chris and I am the manager of RUGMATAG, a tufting specialty store in Osaka .

After the tufting work is completed,

"The rug keeps curling up."

"It turned out harder than I expected."

We often receive inquiries like this.

In fact, this is because the yarn is too dense .

We will clearly explain how rugs warp and some improvements you can try today.

The main cause of rug warping is "too much yarn packed in"

If the yarn is packed tighter than necessary into the tufting cloth, the fabric will be pushed forward and warp.

These two are particularly likely to be the cause.

① The tufting gun is moved slowly

The slower the gun moves, the more yarn will be continuously placed in the same place, resulting in smaller, denser particles on the firing surface.

As a result, the yarn cannot fit in and pushes out the fabric, causing it to warp.

Also, the yarn does not get woven tightly on the surface and sticks out in large quantities, resulting in increased waste.

Points for improvement

• Be conscious of moving the tufting gun a little faster than usual.

② The intervals between the strokes are too narrow (too close together)

If the spacing between stitches is too narrow, the yarns will press together, increasing density and causing warping.

Points for improvement

Leave more space between each other than usual

Adjust the spacing according to the thickness and number of yarns

Many people end up closing the gap because they are worried about it, so it is recommended that you make a conscious effort to leave some space!

Tips for making a rug that won't warp

1. The gun speed is constant

2. Don't space the lines too closely together

3. Adjust the density according to the thickness and number of yarns

4. If you're unsure, test it out a little

This alone will greatly prevent warping!

summary

The main causes of rug warping are:

" Packing too much yarn . "

Looking at the gaps on the backside makes me a little uneasy, but when I look at it from the front, it's surprisingly tightly packed.

Don't pack too tightly = the shortcut to a beautiful finish.

Not only does this prevent warping, but it also greatly improves the quality of your work.

RUGMATAG will continue to

"Tufting questions can be answered"

"After reading it, I want to make it right away."

We will deliver such content to you!

Please look forward to the next update!
