Hello. We areTufting studio & shop RUGMATAG, a tufting workshop and equipment/materials specialty store in Osaka. This time, we have written an article on the basics of using the AK-1 Cut Pile Tufting Gun , a particularly popular model among tufting guns. We hope this article will be helpful for those who say, "I bought an AK-1 but I'm having trouble using it..." or "I bought an AK-1 and want to start tufting, but I'm not sure how to use it..."

It takes practice to weave the yarn neatly. Before trying to create a project straight away, try weaving it on a piece of practice fabric first. Practice until you can create straight lines, even spacing between yarns, and beautiful curves.

What should I do in these situations?

The fabric gets torn...

Are you inserting or removing the needle into the fabric while pressing the trigger?

ใƒปThe yarn won't break...

Are you using yarn that is suitable for the tufting gun? If the yarn is too thick or too hard, it may not cut.
If you are using yarn suitable for tufting but the yarn does not break, it may need maintenance or repair.

ใƒปIt becomes sparse...

You may be moving the AK-1 too fast or spacing the rows of yarn too far apart.

ใƒปI want to change the length of the pile...

We do not recommend trying to change the pile length of an AK-1 yourself. It is a very delicate product, and self-adjustment may result in irreparable damage. If you wish to change the pile length, please consult with the store where you purchased it and take it in, or consider purchasing a new one specifying the desired length. (Changing the pile length of an AK-1 is a complicated process and is not easy to achieve. A single AK-1 is not suitable for flexibly changing pile length. If you wish to change the pile length to create a different look, we recommend purchasing a dedicated machine for each length.)

summary

This time we introduced how to use the AK-1 cut pile tufting gun. Tufting guns such as the AK-1 may look simple, but they are surprisingly delicate. If used incorrectly, the fabric may tear or the tufting may not be done properly. Using the machine improperly can cause injury or even damage, so if you handle it carefully and avoid putting too much strain on the machine, you will achieve a beautiful finish.
