How to apply adhesive with the frame upright
Hello. We are Tufting studio & shop RUGMATAG, a tufting workshop and equipment/materials specialist store in Morinomiya, Osaka.
This time we have summarized how to apply adhesive when the frame is upright, a question that has been asked frequently by customers.
We hope this will be helpful for those who are concerned about "there is no space to lay the frame down" or "I want to apply adhesive while the frame is fixed."
Preparation
When applying glue, make sure to do so while the board is still attached to the frame. (The same goes for applying glue when the board is laid flat.)
If you remove it from the frame and then glue it, it may get wrinkled or not turn out nicely.
If you do remove it from the frame, try to reattach it as neatly as possible.
We recommend laying down cardboard, newspaper, or vinyl while working to prevent adhesive from dripping onto the floor and staining it.
Your clothes may also get dirty, so be sure to wear a work apron or clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.
Adhesive application
The rug adhesives we carry in our store become thick and viscous when thoroughly stirred, so they don't drip easily and are easy to work with.
When applying the adhesive, apply small amounts at a time, rather than using too much at once.
Moving the spatula from bottom to top will help prevent dripping.
If you prepare something that can act as a tray and hold it in one hand, you can work safely even if the liquid drips, as there will be a tray to catch the liquid.
If you leave it upright to dry for a day or two, we recommend using a cardboard backing and screws or nails to attach a few points to the top to prevent the backing from peeling off.
summary
If you don't have a lot of space to work in your home or you want to keep the frame fixed, one method is to apply the adhesive in an upright position like this, so if you're having trouble, please give it a try.
