[Verification] Size of rugs that can be made with 200g of soft acrylic yarn and comparison of mixed color weaves
Hello. We are Tufting studio & shop RUGMATAG, which operates tufting workshops and specializes in equipment and materials in Morinomiya, Osaka . In this article, we will introduce in detail soft acrylic yarn, which is recommended for tufting beginners. We also tested how many rugs can be made with one cone, so please read to the end.
What is soft acrylic yarn?
Soft acrylic yarn, as its name suggests, is characterized by its soft texture. It is made of eight thin threads twisted together, and when woven, it spreads out softly.

Comparison of 1-piece and 2-piece
Soft acrylic is inexpensive and it is recommended to use 1-2 strands, making it easy to prepare and a particularly recommended yarn for beginners.
I would like to cast one line at a time and compare how much difference there is in how the line appears on the surface between one and two strands.
In case of single piece
Since it is a single piece, you can use it as is without having to rewind it, making preparation easy.
Try placing one vertically on the corn and hammering it in.
If you use just one, one line will create this much volume.
Even one piece is enough volume.
In the case of two-piece
We make one ball using a ball winding machine and then hammer in two strands.
When using two strands, either rewind them using a ball winder or use two cones standing upright.
Compared to single strands, this creates more volume in each line.
It is dense and easy to pack, which also shortens production time.
For larger pieces, it will be smoother if you use two pieces.
Check out the size of the rug that can be made with one cone!
To answer the question, " How big a rug can you make from one cone (approximately 200g) of soft acrylic yarn? ", we actually conducted a test.
Validation Conditions
- Yarn : Soft acrylic yarn 200g (weight of yarn only)
- How to use : Take one
- Gun : AK-1 cut pile
- Pile length : approx. 16mm
Continue weaving until 200g of yarn per cone is used up.
result
Measure the finished size.
The vertical length is 35cm
The horizontal length is 30.7 cm
I kept hammering until I ran out of yarn. 35cm× I was able to hit a size of 30.7cm !
The amount consumed will vary depending on how you shoot and the gun you use, so please use this as a guide only.
Mix color input
The mixed colours of soft acrylic yarn are perfect for adding a unique accent to your projects.
Let's see how the MIX colors appear on the surface when applied in various patterns!
The color we will be using this time is BRMX57, a three-color mix.
In case of single piece
A diagonal pattern appeared on the surface.
It seems that when the timing of the color change happens right, a pattern like this can appear.
When using two strands and matching the initial color of both strands
The hammering is done with the initial color aligned.
The result is a larger diagonal pattern than was possible with a single strand.
When using two strands and shifting the first color of both strands
The first color of the shot is shifted before the shot is started.
It came out with a whole bunch of colors.
Even though I used the same yarn, the results were completely different depending on how I wove it.
The appearance of the surface of mixed colors will vary depending on the type of color you choose, the initial color you start with, and the size, so if you're interested in mixed colors, try out different methods of weaving to find your favorite look!
