How to finish the surface of tufted lugs
Hello. We are Tufting studio & shop RUGMATAG, which operates a tufting workshop and a specialty store for equipment and materials in Morinomiya, Osaka.
This time, I have summarized how to finish the surface of a rug made using a tufting gun after the yarn is finished.
There are various finishing methods, but this time we will introduce a finishing method using a carpet trimmer and rug scissors.
How to finish using a carpet trimmer
Basic usage
Do it on a flat surface.
If the rug is curled, it will not be possible to arrange it evenly.
Move the blade parallel to the lug without pressing too hard.
The key here is to mow little by little, rather than trying to mow all at once.
carpet trimmer guide
If you finish the surface only with clippers, it will end up being uneven and difficult to make it even.
When installing, make sure the blade is parallel to the ground.
Attach the trimmer to the guide and mow while pressing down lightly.
Cutting from various directions will give you a more beautiful finish.
If you have a trimmer guide, you will be able to save time and improve the quality.
Edge treatment
After preparing the surface, prepare the edges.
Hold the clippers diagonally and trim the edges of the rug little by little.
If you cut too much at this time, the fabric will be visible, so be careful and do it little by little.
By treating the surface, the design will be more clearly visible and the quality will also appear to be higher.
There is also a way to use a trimmer to give the rug a three-dimensional look like this.
You can use it like this to make the boundaries between colors clear, or to create unevenness.
How to finish with scissors
There are two types of scissors available in our store.
For small pieces, it is easier to finish using scissors.
scissors for rugs
The teeth are rounded and wide, designed to cut horizontally.
Convenient for cutting yarn on the surface.
Rug scissors (straight)
The straight blade is suitable for creating lines at the boundaries of designs and neatly trimming edges.
