How to finish the surface of tufted lugs
Hello. We are Tufting studio & shop RUGMATAG, which runs a tufting workshop and a shop specializing in equipment and supplies in Morinomiya, Osaka.
This time, I've put together a summary of how to finish the surface of a rug made using a tufting gun after the yarn has been tufted.
There are various finishing methods, but this time we will introduce a finishing method using a carpet trimmer and rug scissors.
How to finish using a carpet trimmer
Basic usage
Do this on a flat surface.
If the rug is curled, it will be difficult to straighten it evenly.
Do not press too hard, but move the blade parallel to the lug.
The key here is to not try to mow all at once, but to mow little by little.
Carpet Trimmer Guide
If you finish the surface using only clippers, it will inevitably end up with unevenness and it will be difficult to achieve an even finish.
When installing, make sure the blade is parallel to the ground.
Attach the trimmer to the guide and press lightly while mowing.
Mow from different directions for a neater finish.
Using a trimmer guide will save you time when finishing and greatly improve the quality.
Edge processing
After smoothing the surface, smooth the edges.
Hold the clippers at an angle and trim the corners of the rug's edges in small amounts.
If you cut too much at this point, the fabric will become visible, so be careful and work a little at a time.
Treating the surface makes the design stand out more clearly and makes it appear higher quality.
By using a trimmer, you can also create a three-dimensional look for the rug like this.
You can use it in this way to make the boundaries between colors clearer or to create unevenness.
Finishing with scissors
There are two types of scissors available in our store.
It is easier to finish small pieces using scissors.
Rug Scissors
The teeth are rounded and wide, and are designed to cut horizontally.
It is useful for cutting the surface yarn.
Rug Scissors (Straight)
The straight blade is ideal for creating lines along design boundaries and neatly trimming edges.
