Equipment/tools
・Tufting gun
A tufting gun is essential for driving yarn into fabric.
Our store carries three types : AK-1 (cut pile ) , AK-2 (loop pile) , and AK-DUO (cut & loop pile) , and you can choose the color of each.
For more information on the types of tufting guns and how to choose one, please see this article.
Types of tufting guns and how to choose them
*We receive many inquiries about maintenance and repair requests for tufting guns purchased at major online shopping malls, etc., but please note that Ragma Tag does not accept inquiries regarding other companies' products.
Tufting guns may cause problems due to the nature of the product. We recommend purchasing at a specialty store that can handle maintenance and repairs.
・Tufting frame
Tufting frame required for pasting cloth.
You can purchase a prefabricated frame or make one yourself.
Our store sells prefabricated aluminum frames in three sizes.
You can learn more about how to make and install a tufting frame in this article.

・Carpet trimmer
This is a carpet trimmer used for finishing.
It is necessary to clean the coat of the rug, such as processing the edges and surface, and carving.
By attaching a trimmer guide , you can easily trim the surface of the rug.

・Tamamaki ware
The ball roll machine can turn yarn of any shape into balls.
The rolled yarn does not require a thread stand, and the yarn can be pulled out smoothly from the center. It is also useful when dividing cone-wrapped yarn into multiple pieces.
You don't need it if you only use cone-wrapped yarn, but it's very convenient to have.
Our store sells Tamamaki ware from the reliable brand DARUMA.
・Thread warp
A thread holder that can hold cone-wrapped yarn in place.
We carry two types at our store, and it is best to choose one depending on the number of cones you will be using.
* Ball-wrapped yarn cannot be used. You can use the ball-wrapped yarn by placing it in a basket etc. so that it does not roll around.
・Scissors
Scissors are needed for trimming the coat and trimming the edges of the rug.
Any scissors that can cut yarn will do. We carry two types of rug scissors at our store.
·projector
This is a projector used to transfer the design of the work onto the base fabric.
Choose one that can be mirrored with your smartphone, iPad, etc.
Although it is not necessary for those who draw designs freehand, it is a useful item to have.
Please refer to this article for information on how to project and transfer images using a projector.

·mixer
A hand mixer used to stir adhesive.
The adhesive we sell in our store expands to about 2 to 3 times its size when stirred.
Therefore, prepare a large bucket or bowl and stir it.
*Photos are staff's personal belongings. I bought a used one for around 1000 yen.
At our store, we use a commercial mixer that can mix a large amount at once.
materials
・Base fabric
This is the base fabric (tufting cloth) that serves as the base for inserting yarn.
In our store, we use Hesshan that is actually used in MIYOSHI RUG's products.
We carry two types of base fabric : tufting cloth with guide lines .
For beginners, we recommend a tufting cloth that comes with a guide line, but Hesshan is made in Japan and is reasonably priced.
It's best to try both and use the one you like.
·lining
This is the lining required for the back side of the rug.
In addition to the mesh actually used in MIYOSHI RUG's products, our store carries three types of linings : non-slip backing cloth , and backing cloth that can be used in combination with backing tape .
Each one has a different look, functionality, and effort, so it's a good idea to try them out and find the one you like.
・Yarn
Yarn for threading into cloth.
If you are making a rug using a mainstream home tufting gun (e.g. AK-1), acrylic yarn or wool yarn is suitable. Many cotton, synthetic fiber yarns, and craft items are difficult to cut with a home tufting gun, and can damage scissors.
We recommend using yarn made for rugs, as yarn other than yarn for rugs can easily cause the tufting gun to malfunction.
This article explains how to choose yarn.
How to choose the right thread for tufting·glue
A rug adhesive needed to bond the base fabric, yarn, and lining.
We carry two types of adhesives.
By using RADITEX (lining glue) in combination with mesh, it is possible to create a raw finish, and it also has a strong anti-slip effect.
This is also a professional material actually used by MIYOSHI RUG.
The tufting backing agent (rug adhesive) containing anti-mite ingredients is an adhesive with anti-mite effects (tested) that is also used in rug factories.
Both are mixed with a mixer.
・Oil for tufting gun
Also prepare the oil necessary for maintaining the tufting gun.
At our store, we use chainsaw oil from Azet Co., Ltd.
It can be purchased at home centers, etc.
・Glue gun (for back edge)
Necessary for finishing methods combined with backing tape.
・Draft pen
Necessary for drafting and transferring designs. We recommend something that dries quickly.
